This is the Japanese LaserDisc release of Wagner's Tannhäuser (歌劇 タンホイザー 全三幕), filmed live at the Metropolitan Opera on November 22 and December 20, 1982, published by Pioneer LDC Japan. The OBI strip is present and intact. Both individual disc sleeves are present and in clean condition. This is the celebrated Otto Schenk production conducted by James Levine — one of the most lauded Wagner productions in Met Opera history.

About the Performance:

This 1982 Metropolitan Opera production of Tannhäuser — directed by Otto Schenk with designs by Günther Schneider-Siemssen — starred Richard Cassilly in the title role, Eva Marton as Elisabeth, Tatiana Troyanos as Venus, and Bernd Weikl as Wolfram, conducted by James Levine. The New York Times called it "one of the most gorgeous and gloriously romantic productions in the Met's repertory," praised for its breathtaking scenic design and the superbly matched cast.  (eBay) The performance was broadcast live on PBS as part of the Live from the Metropolitan Opera series and has since been reissued on DVD, but this LaserDisc Japanese pressing predates all subsequent releases.
