About the Performance:

La Cenerentola (Cinderella) is one of Rossini's most beloved comic operas, composed in 1817. This celebrated production features Frederica von Stade in the title role of Angelina, Francisco Araiza as Don Ramiro, Paolo Montarsolo as Don Magnifico, and Claudio Desderi as Dandini, with the Coro e Orchestra del Teatro alla Scala under the baton of Claudio Abbado — one of the great Rossini conductors of the 20th century. The production was directed and designed by the legendary opera filmmaker Jean-Pierre Ponnelle and is widely regarded as one of the finest filmed opera productions of its era.
