Content Description

Volume 5 of NHK's landmark 銀河宇宙オデッセイ (Galactic Space Odyssey) documentary series. In this penultimate episode, the spacecraft Helios transcends the boundaries of our own galaxy and ventures into the vast large-scale structure of the universe — superclusters of galaxies, cosmic filaments, and the great voids between them. The program explores the discovery that galaxies are not randomly distributed but form immense structures, tracing humanity's expanding understanding of the cosmos from Galileo's first telescopic observations through to modern supercomputer simulations of large-scale structure. Features CG visualization of cosmic large-scale structure, NHK Super Harp camera footage, and the series' RSS (Roland Sound Space) spatial audio system. Music by Haru Takauchi. Co-produced with RIAS-TV (Germany).
