This is the Japanese LaserDisc release of Verdi's La Traviata (歌劇「椿姫」全3幕), the complete opera recorded live at Teatro alla Scala in 1992, conducted by Riccardo Muti and directed by Liliana Cavani, published by Sony Classical / Sony Records Japan. This copy appears to be factory sealed in its original shrinkwrap. The OBI strip is present and intact. This is a prestige production recorded using HDVS (High Definition Video System / ハイビジョン) technology — an early high-definition video format — in a co-production between Teatro alla Scala, RAI, NHK, and Sony Classical GmbH.

About the Performance:

This celebrated 1992 Scala production of La Traviata features soprano Tiziana Fabbricini in the role of Violetta, tenor Roberto Alagna (early in his career) as Alfredo, and baritone Paolo Coni as Giorgio Germont, with the full Orchestra and Chorus of Teatro alla Scala under Riccardo Muti. Stage production and video direction by Liliana Cavani, with set design by Dante Ferretti and costumes by Gabriella Pescucci. The performance was recorded in HDVS (Hi-Vision) format — one of the earliest uses of high-definition video technology for opera recording — and represents one of the landmark Scala opera releases of the 1990s.
