Content

The 1994 Studio Ghibli film directed by Isao Takahata, following a community of tanuki (Japanese raccoon dogs) in the hills outside Tokyo who use their legendary shapeshifting abilities to resist the destruction of their forest habitat by urban development. A richly layered film blending Japanese folklore, comedy, and ecological melancholy. One of Takahata's most distinctive works and a fan favorite among Ghibli collectors.
