Content Description

The prologue volume of NHK's landmark 銀河宇宙オデッセイ (Galactic Space Odyssey) documentary series — the companion piece to the BGV release TOLS-1091. This is a full-length double-sided documentary disc running approximately 89 minutes, making it substantially longer than the BGV ambient release. Filmed using NHK's then state-of-the-art "Super Harp" ultra-high-sensitivity camera system — 100 times more sensitive than conventional cameras of the era — capturing the universe from the world's most beautiful mountain observatory at Las Campanas in Chile, the Soviet space station Mir, and other international locations.

The program traces humanity's relationship with the cosmos from ancient stargazers through to modern astrophysics and space exploration, weaving together drama, documentary footage, special effects, CG, and the NHK Super Harp astronomical images into an immersive cinematic experience. Features a dedicated spatial sound design system developed specifically for the series.

Production credits include staff from Carnegie Institution / Las Campanas Observatory, Soviet space program footage, NHK Japan Observatory, and international contributors including Gregory Henford, Jill Tarter, and William Hayes.
