Up for sale is the Japanese LaserDisc release of Il Bidone (The Swindle, 1955), one of Federico Fellini's most underrated and rarely seen masterworks. Starring Broderick Crawford as Augusto, a middle-aged con man who poses as a Catholic priest to swindle impoverished rural families, the film is a moral fable of conscience and redemption that bridges Fellini's neorealist early work with his later visionary style. Co-starring Richard Basehart and Giulietta Masina, and scored by Nino Rota, Il Bidone was virtually unavailable on home video in the West and remains one of the most elusive Fellini films to collect. This is catalog number SF078-5175, a 2-disc CLV set released in Japan by Herald Enterprise/Pioneer in 1987, with Italian mono audio and Japanese subtitles.

The cream-colored cover shows age-related yellowing and tanning consistent with a 1987 pressing, along with light soiling. The back cover shows similar age discoloration. The disc appears clean. No OBI strip is included with this copy.
